About us

Most of my baskets bring together the rural crafts of basket making and straw plaiting. The brilliance of the straw stands out against the darkness of the interwoven willow bark.

For me, a basket is more than just a functional object. It tells a story of the plants used and the lives of the people who mastered these techniques in pre-modern times. Did you know that straw plaiting was a technique popularized by Hertfordshire artisans during the Victorian era for the straw hat industry?

Playing With Colour

Willow bark is sourced from Essex and Central Bedfordshire at a key time of the year when the sap starts to rise. So during periods of unavailability, I love to experiment with colour on cold pressed watercolour paper.
